Long time no see… it's Yosugaya!

It's been a while since my last post, hasn't it? 😅

Today, I'd like to introduce some famous teas from Taiwan, categorized by their producing regions.

1. Northern Area (Taipei, New Taipei)

Northern Taiwan has a rich history in the development of Taiwanese tea.

Wenshan Pouchong Tea: Produced in the Wenshan district of Taipei (such as Pinglin), this Oolong tea has a low fermentation level, similar to green tea, with a floral aroma. Some varieties also have a roasted, savory fragrance.

Muzha Tieguanyin: Also a specialty of the Muzha area in the Wenshan district. This Oolong tea is characterized by its rich and profound flavor, thanks to thorough roasting.

2. Central Area (Nantou County, etc.)

Further south in central Taiwan, you'll find regions producing famous teas that are familiar to Japanese people.

Dongding Oolong Tea: Produced in the Lugu Township area of Nantou County. It's a well-known tea among Japanese people for its elegant aroma and rich sweetness.

High Mountain Oolong Tea: Cultivated in high mountains (such as Alishan and Lishan) at altitudes of 1000m or more. Grown in a cool climate, it has less astringency and offers a clear aroma and translucent umami flavor.

Sun Moon Lake Black Tea: Produced around Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan's largest lake. It's a globally acclaimed black tea with a mellow flavor.

3. Low Altitude Area

There are also special teas produced by utilizing Taiwan's unique environment. Low-altitude areas are hot and humid, and in summer, many small insects called "tea jassids" appear. By deliberately allowing these jassids to bite the tea leaves, the tea plants produce components that create a distinctive sweet aroma.

Oriental Beauty Tea: Primarily produced in Hsinchu and Miaoli counties in the northwest. Born from the power of the tea jassids, it boasts an exquisite sweet aroma like honey or ripe fruit.

Honey Scented Black Tea: Black tea produced in eastern Hualien County, among other places. This tea also benefits from the tea jassids, and though no sugar is added, it has a honey-like sweet aroma.

From hills swept by sea breezes to high mountains covered in seas of clouds, tea is cultivated almost everywhere in Taiwan. Its diverse terrain and climate create unique and distinct teas.

Although our shop is still small, we will continue to work hard to confidently offer a wider variety of teas!
