Yosugaya Diary / Vol.3 "Introduction to Taiwanese Tea"

October 08, 2025

This is Yosugaya.

Currently, we mainly deal with Taiwanese tea, but recently,
"I don't really know what Taiwanese tea is anyway..."
We receive comments such as:
These are agricultural products from overseas that suddenly appeared in the morning market...

Since this is a good opportunity, I would like to talk about "What kind of tea is Taiwanese tea?" in several parts starting today.

First of all, as it is called "Taiwanese tea," the raw tea leaves are grown all over Taiwan.

Although wild tea trees originally grew in Taiwan, the tea trees that are currently cultivated were brought over by people who migrated from Fujian Province, China.

Later, the high quality of Taiwanese tea caught the eye of British merchants, and production for export began in earnest.

Furthermore, the Japanese colonial period had a major impact on the development of Taiwanese tea, with new varieties being introduced and testing stations being established to promote breeding.

It could be said that Taiwanese tea has inherited the cultures of mainland China and Japan, but has also developed its own unique flavor and style within the climate and sensibilities unique to Taiwan.

In the next issue, we will focus on the "producing regions" of Taiwanese tea. Please look forward to it!

- notice -
Since last month, we have been open on weekdays as well. (Though sometimes we oversleep...)
I really like the relaxed atmosphere on weekdays.

This season, when the mornings and evenings are getting a little chilly,
Why not start your day off right with a warm cup of tea?
